Level 2 Award in Assisting Forest School

This Forest School Assistant training is designed for those wanting to assist a Level 3 Forest School Leader. It is ideal for those who would like a more in-depth introductory course or who need more practical and academic experience in order to progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Leading Forest School course. Training takes place in person at Ferry Meadows Country Park.  The theory elements of the course will be delivered in the comfortable surroundings of the Lakeside Meeting Room, while the practical skills sessions will take place outdoors in our dedicated Forest School site. 

There are four units of study at Level 2:

·         Supporting learning, play and development in the Natural Environment

·         Sustainable use and management of Natural Resources

·         Outdoor practical skills

·         Forest School Assistant

On this course you will:

·         Attend training days which consist of both theory and practical tasks

·         Support a Forest School Programme in your chosen setting

·         Complete a portfolio for assessment.

There is a one day course completion workshop about three-quarters of the way through the course. 

In addition to the course dates, the lead tutor is available during the course for tutorial help by telephone or email.

Entry Qualifications Required:

·         Established link with Forest School Practitioner

·         Aged 16 years or over

·         Level 1 qualification or equivalent (1 GCSE)

Also:

·         Before undertaking Level 2 Forest School Training, you are strongly advised to achieve a suitable First Aid Qualification and hold a current DBS certificate prior to starting your own Forest School practice, however, this is the responsibility of the individual setting where you will be delivering Forest School. 

The course will include four days of training and one day practical assessment.  Participants must be available to attend all dates.

For the course starting 4th March 2024 course dates are: 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th and 25th  March

For the course starting 16th September 2024 course dates are:  16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th September and 7th October
